The New Hampshire Campaign for Legal Services has announced that Wilfred “Jack” Sanders, Jr., a partner in Pierce Atwood’s Portsmouth office, will serve as Chairman of the 2016 Campaign Leadership Council.
The Campaign is a joint fundraising initiative for New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) and the Legal Advice and Referral Center (LARC), civil legal aid programs providing advice and representation to and systemic advocacy on behalf of low-income and vulnerable New Hampshire residents. Campaign Leadership Council members are volunteers from the state legal, business, and philanthropic communities committed to the ideal of Equal Access to Justice for All.
“I’ve spent my career helping businesses and individuals navigate the legal system. I know how complex our courts are, and how difficult it can be to navigate in a time of personal or emotional crisis,” Sanders said. “NHLA and LARC protect their clients from domestic abuse, help them access benefits like health care and education, and preserve safe housing for their families. Supporting the Campaign means ensuring our nation’s founding principle – justice for all – remains alive.”
Jack, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Boston College Law School, takes the chairmanship from Emily Gray Rice, a shareholder of the Bernstein Shur law firm, after she stepped down to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Hampshire.
In addition to his work on the Campaign, Jack has served as Vice Chair of the Judicial Conduct Committee of New Hampshire, as a member of the New Hampshire Legislative Ethics Committee and on the Governor’s Judicial Selection Commission. He has also served on the boards of directors of several charitable and business organizations.
In 2015, the Campaign raised more than $255,000 in tax-deductible donations for civil legal aid, from individuals, businesses, and law firms across New Hampshire.
