Innovative clinics, started during pandemic, endure thanks to Campaign supporters
In the face of the historic public health threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government took two historic actions: a year-long moratorium on residential evictions and millions of dollars in emergency rental assistance to help tenants catch up.
To help address the potential tidal wave of evictions when the moratorium was lifted, NHLA and 603LA launched “eviction clinics” at the Concord, Manchester and Nashua District Courts every week.
Tenants facing eviction can meet with attorneys or paralegals who can negotiate with their landlord for more time to find new housing or to apply for rental assistance.
Funding for the rental assistance and the clinics has been exhausted but legal aid staff are still helping as many as 20 families at each clinic.
A gift of $569.20 will cover staffing costs to support Pro Bono volunteers at one month of the Concord eviction prevention clinic.
A gift of $800 can fund one week of the eviction prevention clinic at the Nashua court.
A gift of $2,500 can fund one eviction clinic AND one domestic violence protection clinic in Manchester.
